It is a great hike for families with children, as the hike is 4.8 miles round trip and can be completed in 4 – 6 hours, with it being a 2 – 3 hour trip to the summit. The trail is fairly moderate with just a few short steeper pitches but the summit can be windy so be sure to pack appropriate wind gear.
Cascade Mountain is also great because of its proximity to Porter Mountain, another family friendly High Peak hike. Many hikers choose to scale these two peaks together, which can be done relatively easily as a day trip.
Mt. Jo is another popular hike for the whole family to enjoy. With the whole trail only 2.6 miles round trip, a family with children can easily hike the entire trail in under 3 hours. Mt. The whole trail is roughly 4.5 miles round trip and even though it offers one of the best views in the area, it is not typically very busy. A family with children can expect to reach the summit in roughly 1.5 – 2 hours. When approaching the summit, be sure to keep in mind that the first view you come to is not the summit. The true summit is just beyond and offers the best view.
