Now’s the time to plan a Spring getaway to Lake Placid!  There’s no need to look too far for things to do in the High Peaks region. Take time to visit the Lake Placid Olympic museum, the  Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society Museum, and John Brown’s Farm State Historic Site. Take  a leisurely drive and visit nearby museums in Saranac Lake: the Charles Dickert Wildlife Museum and the Robert Louis Stevenson Memorial Cottage.   BONUS: These museums in the Adirondacks offer a close-up view of Adirondack history.  You can be sure there’s never a line, and your trip to and from is guaranteed to be scenic and traffic jam free!

Lake Placid NY Winter Vacation Checklist: Snow? Check!

Winter Has Arrived in Lake Placid!

Lake Placid vacations don't require snow!The truth is that Lake Placid is an ideal vacation destination no matter what the weather provides! But Mother Nature came through as usual, with 25 inches of gorgeous snow at Whiteface Mountain in the last 7 days, and more to come!

So, what do we have to do here – with or without snow? Plenty! You can go skiing at Whiteface Mountain, attend any of the many winter festivals or winter sports events here, stroll the quaint streets of the village and browse shops and restaurants, or explore the Adirondack region on your own.

Courtyard by Marriott Lake Placid is located in the Olympic Village, where world-class athletes have come to train for various winter sports for generations, and Adirondack family vacations and getaways are a much-anticipated event! Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, bobsledding, snowmobiling, ice skating and ice hockey…all part and parcel of the Adirondack winter season. The Bobsled & Skeleton World Championship races were exciting, with the USA-1 sweeping World Championships with a four-man bobsled win! Bobsled & Skeleton World Championships In Lake Placid!

Bobsled Races at Lake Placid We love Lake Placid NY – this is the 10th time the World Championship Bobsled races have been held here!

For both men’s and women’s bobsled, this is a competition that attracts local and national champions, Olympic gold medal winners  and up-and-coming contenders who are all thrilled to compete!

The event started on February 17th and runs right through this weekend, including the women’s bobsled, men’s two-man and four-man bobsled, and men’s and women’s skeleton. Here at the Courtyard Marriott Lake Placid, we are proud to be hosting a number of World Champion bobsled athletes from around the world at our hotel! This is a truly exciting  event, and the best of world-class competitors are here to compete, have fun, and enjoy the Olympic Village events and the gorgeous Adirondack region!

Athletes in women’s and men’s skeleton and women’s and men’s two-man bobsled take one run each for a four-run combined time in the team event, with the winner being  the nation with the lowest combined time. The Women’s Skeleton competition takes place at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday! World Champion Cathleen Martini will be defending her title. You can still purchase tickets right at the gate, or online at www.Whiteface.com.
